Total output power is the key
The more interfaces, the better, is the subconscious of many users. Therefore, in the selection of multi-port USB chargers, the more USB, the cheaper the products are always more attractive to us. However, there is a parameter indicator that is more important than the number of USB ports, and it will determine whether a multi-port USB charger is “rubbish”.
This parameter is the maximum total output power. For example, some multi-port USB chargers have a total power of only 10W (5V/2A), but provide four USB ports. This means that it can only guarantee 5V/2A output efficiency when only one device is connected. When you connect 2 to 4 devices at the same time, the output of each USB interface will be averaged, that is, output at 5V/1A, 5V/670mAh and 5V/500mAh respectively (Figure 1), resulting in each device. The charging time is greatly extended by 2 to 4 times!
If you have more mobile devices in your home, and most of them support the standard of 5V/2A charging, then try to choose a multi-port USB charger with a total output power of 30W or more. Ensure that at least two USB interfaces can simultaneously achieve 5V/2A output power.
Reasonable use of interface
Adaptive chips are added to some high-end multi-port USB chargers, and each USB interface can arbitrarily adjust the maximum output current according to the current mobile device. And some multi-port USB chargers are not so “smart”, they will classify the USB interface into two categories, one type indicates that 5V/2A output is supported, and the other type only supports 5V/1A, which requires users to move according to their own. The charging parameters of the device, select the matching USB interface.
