The new USB3.2 Type-C interface is ready to be released

The USB 3.1 Type-C interface has been popularized on a new generation of motherboards and chassis, and the 10Gbps rate is sufficient for most USB peripherals.

The current problem is that there are still fewer products. The next-generation standard is the USB3.2 interface, which doubles the speed of the USB3.1 Type-C interface to 20Gbps.

Synopsys has demonstrated USB 3.2 for the first time based on its own USB Phy, but the related equipment is estimated to be available until next year (2019).

After being first adopted by Nokia N1 in 2014, the USB Type-C interface was extended to different machines and even began to appear in headphones. However, the transmission standards supported by Type-C are inconsistent. It is compatible with USB 2.0, USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 3.1 Gen 2, HDMI, and even Thunderbolt 3.0, resulting in two USB Type-Cs with identical appearance. The transfer rate and functionality may be completely different.

The USB 3.2 standard was announced in September 2017. It supports multi-channel operation of the host and peripherals. If the user’s USB Type-C supports multi-channel operation, it will allow dual channel 5Gb/s or after upgrading the full USB 3.2 device. Dual channel 10Gb/s operation, so 20Gbps speed can be achieved.

They demonstrate a USB 3.1 Type-C data cable for USB 3.2 operation, and Type-C is also the only interface for USB 3.2. You can also continue to be compatible with the current data line. For example, the user can connect the USB 2.0 Type-C cable to the USB 3.1 Type-C hole, but the speed will become the level of USB 2.0; UBS 3.2 can transfer the USB 3.1 Gen 1 transmission rate because it supports dual channel transmission. Up to 10 Gbit/s, Gen 2 is 20 Gbit/s – provided that both machines support USB 3.2.
