Everyone knows that the unit of current is ampere, the unit of voltage is volt, and the unit of charge is coulomb. Then why is the battery capacity unit of mobile phone and charging treasure mA? Presumably, many people also question this. In fact, the reason why it is called mAh is because mA is the most important indicator of lithium phone batteries.

This is based on GB-T1828 “General Specification for Lithium Ion Batteries for Cellular Phones” to define the rated capacity of mobile phones, that is, the battery capacity indicated by the manufacturer, which means that the battery is operated at an ambient temperature of 20 °C ± 5 °C. The amount of electricity supplied when discharging to the end voltage is expressed in C5 in units of Ah (ampere-hours) or mAh (mill ampere-hours).

For example, if the battery is 1000mAh, it can be used for 1h at a discharge current of 1A, and 0.5h at a discharge current of 2A. The basic unit of the amount of charge is Coulomb, 1 coulomb = 1A * 1s = 0.277 ~ mAh = 6.25 x 10e18 elementary charge. The capacity of the battery can be either Wh or mAh, but mAh is more intuitive. When facing a battery with different voltages, it is more convenient to compare the capacity with Wh. Therefore, in general, the battery manufacturer also marks Wh and mAh on the battery.

The use of mAh is mainly for the convenience of calculation, so that the user can calculate the usage time more intuitively. For example, the user only needs to know how many milliamps to use, and can calculate the approximate usage time.

In summary, 1 amp = 1000 mA, the mA is only a current measurement unit under amps. The choice of such a metering method is because the battery capacity itself is low. When calculating the power and usage time, the mAh will be simpler and more direct to show the usage time of the power storage. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with the name of mAh in this respect.
